Heads Up

Good posture—what is it? Simply put, it’s maintaining a neutral spine so that the muscles around the spine are balanced and support the body equally.

How do we get it and keep it? Sit with your weight evenly balanced on your hips and your feet resting flat on the floor. Keep your back mostly straight (you’ll have some natural curves). Keep shoulders back but relaxed, and try to align your ears with your collarbone.

When standing, give your legs a slight knee bend. Avoid locking your knees.

Some benefits of good posture include less tension in your shoulders and neck; greater lung capacity—If you’re slouching, you’re compressing your lungs; and better circulation and digestion; and to top it off, it will look great on you! There’s lots more to learn about good posture. Scan the web for some good posture exercises and practice them with the fam or someone you care about.
